New Guidelines for Bikes, Scooters, and Motorized Devices in Timnath

The Town of Timnath has approved updated regulations regarding where various wheeled devices may be used throughout the community. The new rules apply to streets, sidewalks, trails, parks, open spaces, and other Town-owned properties, with the goal of improving safety for residents and visitors.

Off-Highway and Recreational Vehicles

Motorized recreational vehicles such as dirt bikes and ATVs are prohibited from operating on public streets, trails, parks, and other Town property.

Exceptions include:

  • Children’s ride-on toys traveling under 5 mph while supervised by an adult
  • Electric skateboards
  • OneWheels

Motorized Scooters and E-Motorcycles

Low-powered scooters and electric motorcycles are considered motor vehicles under the updated regulations and may only be operated on public roadways. Operators must:

  • Be at least 16 years old
  • Hold a valid driver’s license
  • Carry current registration and insurance

Class 3 E-Bike Use

Class 3 electric bicycles are permitted on streets, bike lanes, and sidewalks but are restricted from certain recreational paths and areas.

Trail and Sidewalk Courtesy

Traditional bicycles, Class 1 and Class 2 e-bikes, scooters, and other non-motorized devices remain allowed in many public areas, including trails, parks, and open spaces.

When using shared pathways:

  • Yield to pedestrians and slower-moving users
  • Alert others before passing
  • Pass only when it is safe
  • Follow all posted dismount signs and pathway regulations

These updates are intended to help create safer and more enjoyable shared spaces throughout the community.
